PRAGMATISM'S IMPLICATIONS IN THE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM
INTRODUCTION Pragmatism is one of the most influential schools of educational thought. Pragmatism is a compromise that exists between idealism and materialism. Its origins can be traced back to ancient Greek philosophers known as the Sophists, who believed that man is the measure of all things. The word pragmatism comes from a Greek word that means "to do, make, or accomplish." As a result, words like 'action,' 'practice,' and 'activity' are used. Thought takes a back seat to action. The cosmos revolves around experience. Everyone is put to the test using the criterion of experience. Beliefs and ideas are true if they can be implemented and profited from; otherwise, they are untrue. Will Durant defines pragmatism as the belief that truth is an idea's practical efficiency.
